OUR STORY
It all begins with an idea
Toronto Image Works is the brainchild of Edward Burtynsky. Established in 1986, it was created as a place where photographers could go to print their own works and refine their craft. The availability of darkroom rentals, C-41, black and white, Scala and E-6 film processing created a post-graduate club for imaging arts students and a valuable resource for both established and emerging artists, attracting some of the finest craftspeople in traditional film based photography.
Colour corrections the analog way
As traditional film and graphic arts gave way to digital technologies, Toronto Image Works adapted to stay at the forefront of imaging and art production. Simply adopting digital technologies, however, was not enough. Toronto Image Works also developed digital media training courses to help traditional artists and technicians adapt to industry wide changes. Courses in photography, print design and web development became part of an acredited continuing education program.
Continuing education
As it turns out, the best traditional analog technicians also make the best digital technicians, and some of those are still at Toronto Image Works today providing the expertise that is the cornerstone of what we do.
In the tradition that has become Toronto Image Works we welcome everyone from student to established artist to come in and share your vision with us. Rely on our expertise as your production team to help you bring your vision to fruition. We look forward to working with you!
