During the start of each year, we reflect on what was, and what will be.

These are my predictions for 2024:

• Art in boxes or packed in cardboard is OUT
• Framed art is IN √

• Photos stuck in your phone is OUT
• Prints in a photo album is IN √

• Blank walls are OUT
• Gallery walls are IN √

• Faded artwork is OUT
• UV protective glass in frames is IN √

• Dusty negatives in envelopes are OUT
• Scanned negatives archived in sleeves are IN √

• Injured backs and tilted frames are OUT
• Hiring professional installers to hang your artwork is IN √

Dylan has been a member of the TIW team since 2016. He does not drink coffee. He is learning Italian and dreams of travelling Europe again one day soon. His pet family includes 1 sweet cat and 1 very energetic dog.

Thank you to Kyle Yip @kylepyip for coming in to sign his prints and share his inspirations with us. These signed, fine art prints will be available exclusively through an online auction with Peggy’s platform @peggy while two of Kyle’s paintings will be on display physically at the Gardiner Museum @gardinermuseum for the *SMASH: Between Worlds* exhibition. (also featuring Lucas Biagini: @lucasbiaagini & Maxine McCrann: @hi_there_its_max )
*SMASH: Between Worlds* explores the concept of navigating between worlds and will feature multidisciplinary artists whose work challenges boundaries. The show opens with a reception on Thursday, May 30th 2024, and tickets are currently available for $150.
Kyle’s art delves into the intersection of dreams and reality. Inspired by Jungian dream theory and Mandukya Upanishad scriptures, his art merges Gestalt dream interpretation with visual analysis. Through a transdisciplinary approach, he transforms successive immaterial images into tactile artifacts that oscillate between abstraction and representation. These ‘Dream Artifacts’ embody the ethereal and corporeal, creating a bridge between the physiological reality of dreams and the physicality of art. Kyle’s work probes the ambiguity of identity through Eastern and Western philosophies, inviting viewers to decipher its rich visual code and agency.

It was hard not to miss this very large map in our production area recently. It is a reproduction of a fragile artifact by the City of Toronto Museums. @cityofto @TOHistoryMuseums They do this so the original can be better preserved and the reproduction can be on display for people to enjoy, learn from, and interact with.

We recently had the pleasure to work with L. M. Ramsey @lauramargaretramsey on her CONTACT show titled DAMNED. Opening soon at the CONTACT Gallery @contactphoto This gallery is right across the hall from us! So plan to visit next time you come see us.
DAMNED is a poetic homage to beavers and their home-building capacities, explored through the materiality of photography and its various technological manifestations. While photographic technology is the root of almost all Ramsey’s work, at the crux of ‘Damned’ are concepts and practices rooted in safety, care, collectivity and femininity.
