Even while rushing through the city, meaningful words of love and longing, political protest and playful humour can stir hearts and minds. Urban Scrawl features a wide range of expression inscribed onto benches, sidewalks, and streets of Toronto, captured over a twelve-year span by photographer Henry VanderSpek. Come see the “writing on the wall” and explore the mystery and meaning in the messages.

We recently had the pleasure to print and mount these beautiful Chromogenic prints for Virginia Mak. These wonderful pieces are headed to Bau-Xi Gallery @bauxigallery
Virginia Mak is a prominent Toronto-based photographer who is well known for her luminous images of lone figures. The use of soft focus and minimized light values in her work create painterly effects, pushing the medium beyond its traditional limits.

Toronto Image Works has been built on producing the best since 1985. Our Founder, Edward Burtynsky discusses where we are now in terms of colour and quality and how we got here. Ed is always asking:
Is this at the optimum level of what this can be? Are these the best inks? Is this the best colour? Is this the best paper?
Ed feels that in terms of longevity, colour quality and contrast and the feel of the different papers, that Toronto Image Works is almost unbeatable.
Thank you to these wonderfully talented clients, featured in this reel, who trust us with their work:

We love the colour and texture in these beautiful Chromogenic prints by Ella Morton @ellasharpmorton
You can see them in person during her solo exhibition “Under the Arc of the Scorpion’s Tail“ at Gallery 44’s member Gallery from April 4th - May 24th. @g44photo
Captured during artist Ella Morton’s 2024 residency at La Wayaka Current in the Atacama Desert in Northern Chile and subsequent travels in Rapa Nui (Easter Island), this body of work experiments with a range of analogue processes, including mordançage on 4x5 colour negatives, film soup techniques and the use of decades-old expired films. Conjuring psychedelic dreamscapes with these processes—Morton examines the deep connection to the sky, the stars and the numinous palpable in these locations—excavating the latent possibilities within emulsion to manifest the energies present within these remote and volatile landscapes.
Ella received funding from @ontarioartscouncil to make this work.
